PLEASE ATTEND A VERY IMPORTANT COMMUNITY MEETING TO PLAN THE FUTURE OF ITHAN VILLAGE
Join us in a community-led effort to create an alternative, positive vision for Ithan Village, preserving its character, natural and cultural assets and improving the quality of life. The Save Ithan Coalition began to develop a vision for Ithan at a community meeting in March. Now we must convert that preliminary vision into well-defined standards to guide the development of a Neighborhood Overlay District for Ithan.
We are convening this meeting as a design charette, to solicit views on proposed overlay rules and regulations for the Ithan area that will be recommended to the Township for implementation. Save Ithan believes this is a crucial step to advance community interests in a pro-active manner. The Save Ithan Coalition hopes that all interested community members, including developers, will attend and apply their imagination, expertise and enthusiasm to discussing and developing an Overlay District and associated new and revised ordinances for the Ithan neighborhood. Your ideas and input are needed!
Finally, the Save Ithan Coalition needs your financial support! So far, we have relied on contributions from individuals on the steering committee. Printing and mailing notices are expensive. If you can make a contribution to "Save Ithan Coalition", please e-mail Leif Skoogfors at skoogfors@gmail.com and he will pass on information on how to do so. We are just an ad-hoc advocacy group, so contributions are NOT tax deductible.
Thank you!
Colin Gardner, Craig Long, Gary Kleiman, Robin Mann, Jim Miccolis, Jim Riley, Ted Pollard, Leif Skoogfors, and Cheryl Tumola, for the Steering Committee, with the help of Beverley Barnes
Save Ithan Coalition Releases Vision Report and Overlay Concept for Ithan/Radnorville
ITHAN, PENNSYLVANIA -- The Save Ithan Coalition today called on Radnor Township officials to invite the public into the process of defining a future for the Village of Ithan. The Coalition also released the results of a Vision Workshop for Ithan/Radnorville, in an effort to jumpstart the public dialogue.
The Coalition formed in opposition to the 24-unit condominium project proposed by O’Neill Properties for parcels it acquired in Ithan. In a letter to Radnor Commissioners and members of the Planning Commission, the Coalition drew attention to Ithan Village as an important historical and cultural resource of the community, and urged that Radnor Township proceed to develop a plan for Ithan “worthy of that value.” The Coalition advised that Radnor Township should take the initiative to develop an overlay district for Ithan, as anticipated by the Comprehensive Plan, rather than abdicate the responsibility to O’Neill and other village center property owners who have decided to collaborate.
The Vision Workshop report, which is available from the Coalition’s website, calls for a plan for new development and redevelopment that retains the character and scale of Ithan Village, embraces its historic assets, and improves the quality of life in the area. The report also recommends exploring the opportunity to extend a trail from Ithan to Martha Brown’s Woods, connecting to the Radnor Pedestrian and Bike Trail. The report is accompanied by a map showing the possible boundaries of an overlay district.
